Hope

Hope is a Piscataway Citizen, and she belongs to the Deer Clan. Her native name is Mechesa, which means “Firestarter or Spark of a Flame.” As an Educator and Social/ Racial Justice Activist, she grew up learning the traditional values of the Piscataway. She has learned to incorporate the values and culture of other Indigenous nations worldwide in her activism. Hope’s primary mission is to preserve the traditions of all Indigenous peoples and expand how they are perceived today. Most importantly, she was to protect Indigenous peoples and women’s rights for present and emerging generations. Hope has currently and previously served on the board of directors of various Indigenous non-profits and associations.

Hope is a senior at a local Washington, DC University. She is honored to return this year at the Women’s March.
